Mexican Chinelo Mask #2009.01.042 sold
A chinelo carnival dance mask made from window screen shaped over a mould. Along with the mask, dancers wear lavishly beaded hats and velvet costumes. The mask is bound on the edge with cotton cloth and the beard is made from dyed agave fibers (ixtle). Most Chinelo masks come from the region around Tepoztlan, Morelos Mexico and are often used during the pre-lent carnival celebrations. It is in excellent condition. The owner said it was made in the 1970s. Size H 7”, W 6 1/2”, D 6”. Weight 1 lbs. SOLD
