Guerrero Bird Mask #2009.01.043 SOLD
This is a bird dance mask with an exceptionally long beak. It is nicely shaped and the face is painted green, yellow and red with rows of white dots. The large round eyes give the mask a playful, happy look. This mask is used by the Amuscos people and comes from Quechultenango, Guerrero Mexico. It is made from zompantle and cuagiore wood. The mask has had wood bore beetle problems in the past but has been properly treated and is now in very good condition. It was collected in Taxco in 2009 and the owner said it was made in the 1960s. Size H 8”, W 8 1/2”, D 16”. Weight 2 lbs.
