Solomon Islands ritual bowl carved from wood with mother-of-pearl inlay. This beautiful bowl is filled with food and hung by ropes in the village “Customs House” during a ceremony held for the spirit “ngauwogasi”. The terminal figures represent the sea spirit Atarotari. This bowl is named “apiranimwane” meaning, bowl for men, and was carved by Albert Maeke. It was collected in Upana village, Santa Ana Island in 1987. It is unused and in excellent condition. H 8 1/2" W 17 1/2" D 5 1/4" Weight 4 lbs. Clients from outside the continental United States please email the gallery for cost of handling and shipping.
