Santa Cruz feather money role #1987.01.184 SOLD
Solomon Islands, Santa Cruz feather money roll composed of a long spiraling coil of woven fibers decorated with the scarlet head and breast feathers of the red breasted honey bird. The roll terminates in two coils of bark and is decorated with a number of shell strands. This rare object is a very important exchange object among the Santa Cruz people and is normally passed down from generation to generation. Some feathers have been worn off through use and age but in general the roll is in very good condition. Please contact the gallery if you wish to see additional photos. Size unrolled is 312” (26 ft) long while the size rolled on the stand and including the stand is H18” W 37” D 6” Weight 15 lbs with stand. SOLD
