Malagan carving, from Matlik village Tabar Island, New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. This malagan is named Turu. It was owned by Kiabbo of the clan Karamura and carved by M. Ciabo from Tabar Island. It was used in a malagan ceremony in 1986 in Matlik village.on Big Tabar Island and field collected in 1987. It is carved from wood with and coated with natural pigments. It has a repair on one of the head feathers. The color is good with a small amount of flaking of the white lime. H 47” W 5” D 5” Weight 5 lbs.
