Guerrero copper mask of old man #2009.01.025 Sold
A copper mask of a man with a big black beard. The tradition of making masks from copper comes from La Perota, Guerrero which used to be a major silver and copper mining area. The artist used a repousse technique hammering the sheet of copper from the back to create the designs. They were normally used in a rain-petitioning dance. The mask has a nicely painted finish and is in very good condition. It was found in a small antique shop in Taxco Guerrero, Mexico in 2009. It shows some signs of age but no provenience is available. Size H 17 1/2 ”, W 11 ”, D 3 1/2 ”. Weight 1 1/2 lbs. SOLD
